Homeschooling:

Checklist – things to keep in mind as a homeschooling household

❏ Give up stressing, yelling, comparison or the need for perfection.. Breathe. You can do this! You will do this! You’re not alone. Go through our resources listed, join a group and ask questions.
.❏ Notify the commissioner of the department of education, resident district superintendent, or principal of a nonpublic school with a Letter of Intent within 5 business days of beginning to home educate.
❏ Maintain a portfolio of the reading materials used, and also samples of writings, worksheets, workbooks, or creative materials used or developed by the child. This should be kept for 2 years in case of audit.
❏ Participate in an annual educational evaluation via a certified teacher or a teacher currently teaching in a nonpublic school who is selected by the parent, OR take any national assesment test with an administrator the test guidelines direct/ a state student assessment test used by the resident district; OR the child can be evaluated using any other valid measurement tool mutually agreed upon by the parent and the commissioner of education, resident district superintendent, or nonpublic school principal. This evaluation must be kept by the parent.
❏ Must consist of instruction in science, mathematics, language, government, history, health, reading, writing, spelling, the history of the constitutions of New Hampshire and the United States, and an exposure to and appreciation of art and music. (This does not have to match a school setting education – you may teach these items with whatever means you/your child prefer)
NO superintendent, school board, school principal, or other school district official shall propose, adopt, or enforce any policy or procedure governing home educated pupils that is inconsistent with or more restrictive than the provisions of this chapter and any rules adopted pursuant to RSA 193-A:3.
